Fund a Painting
Conserving the Guild’s Historic Collection
Help preserve Brown County’s artistic legacy.
Through the Fund a Painting program, you can directly support the conservation and care of artworks in the Brown County Art Guild’s Historic Collection. Your contribution helps ensure these important paintings are protected and enjoyed by future generations.
Every painting has a story. Help us preserve it.
Our current project focuses on At the Piano by renowned Brown County artist Marie Goth. This remarkable painting is unique within Goth’s body of work, portraying an unknown subject illuminated by a beautiful lamp while seated at the very piano Marie herself owned – a 1925 Steinway L Series Grand Piano.
Today, that historic piano remains a cherished part of the Brown County Art Guild, residing in our lobby and providing music for receptions, exhibitions, and special gatherings. Together, the painting and piano tell a rare and personal story of one of Brown County’s most celebrated artists.
Treatments for Conservation:
- Surface cleaning
- Varnish removal & replacement
- Mend the torn canvas
- Consolidation, extensive filling & retouching; particularly along the massive areas of loss in the bottom
Your support will help conserve At the Piano for future generations, ensuring that this meaningful connection between art, music, and history continues to inspire visitors for years to come.
